Fondly remembered as a humble, pleasant, and approachable gentleman, the late Tun Mohar left behind a legacy of integrity, positivism, sacrifice and dedication - virtues that the programme seeks to instill in its participants. It is in memory of the late Tun Mohar's gentle and noble ways that the Raja Mohar Life Enrichment Awards Programme RAMLEA
is created.
The Raja Mohar Life Enrichment Awards Programme (RAMLEA)
There are some people who have worked hard throughout their career looking forward to retirement as a time to indulge themselves in
activities that they have missed out in their earlier adult life. Then, there are those
who dread retirement because they have too much time in hand and do not know what to do. Senior citizens only need to look and they will discover the countless areas that they can
actively contribute towards. Although no longer gainfully employed, they should continue
to keep living rather than merely existing, making life challenging while setting fresh
priorities and goals. Psychological researches have shown that specific forms of human
intelligence actually increase, as people grow older.
RAMLEA hopes to revive this
"crystallised intelligence" and introduce the concept of "mutual
dependence" where participants explore the dynamics between "giving" and "receiving", between being needed and being needy. It is an expenses-paid
residential programme, aimed at enabling retiring or retired individuals find purpose and
activity in the golden years of their lives. The programme will expose participants to
talks, readings, discussions, visitations and reflections that will help them rediscover
themselves and the society around them. They will not only find purpose and direction, but
also participate in activities as well as build on rewarding relationships. It is hoped
that from this experience, participants will play a more active role in community
development programmes putting their wealth of knowledge and experience to good use while continuing to create value in society.
Who Should Attend
Active members of senior citizen's clubs,
senior members of religious bodies, government pensioners, corporate retirees, senior
members of NGOs, and those contemplating retirement within a year.
